The Perceptive Leader recognizes something simply complex: leadership is helping people see themselves from a different perspective.

The Perceptive Leader

Seeing clearly. Leading wisely.

-Gordon Comfort

What started as a way for me to make sense of leadership experiences has evolved into something more intentional. Over time, patterns became clear—how we see people, how we approach decisions, and how we learn from both. The Perceptive Leader is an attempt to capture those patterns in a way that others can use.

  • •The best leaders I’ve observed share one common trait:

    •They notice things others miss.

    •They understand people.

    •They recognize patterns.

    •They see possibilities others overlook.

•That ability, perception, shapes how they lead.

  • Great leadership begins with perception.

When leaders see clearly, three behaviors consistently follow:

    1.Be Kind

    2.Exercise Sound Judgment

    3.Lead with Humility

  • Principle 1 Rules:

Assume good intentions and give grace
Start with the belief that people are trying to do the right thing.

    Resolve concerns
Address problems directly and respectfully rather than allowing frustration to grow.

    Teach correct principles
Help people understand the principles behind decisions so they can act wisely on their own.

  • Principle 2 Rules:

    Is it me?
Begin with self-examination: What role did I play in this situation?

    Look for the third option
Avoid false choices and explore the full range of possible solutions.

    Go and see
Understand the situation firsthand before making a decision.

  • Principle 3 Rules:

    Admit mistakes
When you are wrong, acknowledge it openly and correct course.

    Share credit
Recognize the contributions of others and celebrate team success.

    Learn from others
Remain open to insights and perspectives from people around you.
